About this tool
Most of the time students convert CGPA into a percentage for forms. But some situations run backwards: you know the percentage cutoff (say 60%) and need to express it in CGPA terms; you're comparing offers where one transcript shows percentages and another CGPA; or you're filling an application that expects CGPA while your older marksheet printed percentages.
Doing this correctly requires inverting each university's specific formula, not dividing by 9.5 blindly. If VTU's rule is Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, then the exact inverse is CGPA = (Percentage ÷ 10) + 0.75 — which is not the same as what a generic converter would return. This tool applies the true algebraic inverse of whichever university formula you select, with the same honesty badges as the forward converter.

FAQs
How do I convert percentage back to CGPA?
You invert whatever formula your university uses for the forward direction. For VTU: CGPA = (Percentage ÷ 10) + 0.75, so 77.5% becomes exactly 8.5 CGPA. For a generic ×9.5 scheme: CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5.
Is dividing by 9.5 always correct?
No. It's only correct for universities whose forward formula is ×9.5. Using it elsewhere gives wrong values — e.g. for VTU it would return 8.16 instead of 8.5 for 77.5%, a visible error on any application.
Why does the same percentage give different CGPAs for different universities?
Because there is no national standard. Each university defines its own equivalence between grade points and marks, so identical percentages legitimately map to different CGPAs depending on the institution.
Can I convert a cumulative percentage across semesters?
Carefully. If your percentage is itself a weighted aggregate, the reverse conversion yields the matching cumulative CGPA only if the university's formula was linear to begin with — which all formulas here are. Still, prefer your university's own consolidated documents whenever they exist.
What precision should I enter on forms?
Two decimals is standard for CGPA (e.g. 8.47). Some applications ask to truncate rather than round; our display rounds to two decimals, so truncate manually if your form demands it.
Do you keep the numbers I enter?
