About this tool
Placement portals, government application forms and higher-studies applications all ask for a percentage, while Indian universities grade in CGPA. The catch: there is no national standard for converting between them. VTU officially uses (CGPA − 0.75) × 10; AKTU commonly applies CGPA × 10; Mumbai University's circulated equivalence is 7.1 × CGPA + 11 — and most other universities publish their own rule or none at all.
Most converter websites ignore this entirely and multiply everything by 9.5. That can understate a VTU student's marks by several points or overstate others' — a real problem when a form's cutoff is 65% or 70%. This converter stores per-university formulas and, critically, labels each one: Official (matches the university's published circular), Widely reported (commonly used but verify against your batch's circular), or Generic estimate (the CBSE-style ×9.5 default, shown only when we cannot verify a university-specific formula).

FAQs
What is the official VTU formula for CGPA to percentage?
VTU's official circular under the CBCS scheme states: Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10. For example, a CGPA of 8.5 converts to (8.5 − 0.75) × 10 = 77.5%. Many sites wrongly list plain ×9.5 or ×10 for VTU — both are incorrect.
Is the CBSE ×9.5 multiplier valid for university CGPA?
Only by accident. ×9.5 is the CBSE Class-10 convention (on a 10-point scale where A1=95%). Some universities do adopt it, many don't. Using it blindly for a university that publishes a different formula produces wrong percentages on forms where cutoffs matter.
Why do some formulas show 'Widely reported' instead of 'Official'?
Because honesty beats confidence theatre. For those universities the formula is widely used and often printed on transcripts, but we have not verified the exact circular text ourselves. The badge tells you to cross-check your batch's circular — which takes two minutes and protects your application.
What if my university isn't listed?
Use the 'Generic (CBSE-style ×9.5)' option at the bottom of the dropdown as a best-effort estimate, then confirm with your examination section. We add universities over time; precision is never faked just to fill a list.
My transcript already shows a percentage. Which should I use?
Always the one printed by your university. If your transcript or consolidated marksheet states an equivalent percentage, use it verbatim on forms — it overrides any third-party conversion including ours.
How is CGPA different from SGPA?

Does rounding matter?
It can. Some forms require rounding down to two decimals, some accept fractions. Our result is rounded to two decimals; check whether your target form wants truncation ('77.49%' vs '77.50%') — a one-line difference that occasionally decides eligibility.
